In 1734 the fully preserved body of a prehistoric miner was found in the Hallstatt Salt Mine, known today as the Man in Salt. The true story of the Man in the Salt begins in the Miners' House. Throughout the tour you will discover fascinating facts about the history of the salt mines. Two long miners' slides take you deep underground to the mystic salt lake. A mine train returns you safely and comfortably back into the daylight. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are essential.

The Hallstatt Higher Valley
The Hallstatt miners used to live in this Higher Valley which can be reached today by the mine train in just a few minutes. The panorama elevator and the viewing bridge allow you to enjoy the famous World Heritage View* towards Hallstatt, the lake of Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains. There is a special theme trail through the burial ground, 2 exhibitions as well as a "show grave".
